Many UPdate members have asked how to find a vacation rental when coming to Kailua-Kona. The best way is to search www.vrbo.com When you get to the home page, at the very top is a box that says “Search by key word, property number or destination”. But I find it easier to scroll down to the map, click on the Big Island, then click on the Big Island again. The next Big Island map has the location you can click on. Each line is a separate link to the area specified.
So say you click on Kailua-Kona; 1,168 possibilities show up. But there is also a long list of neighborhoods and condo complexes to choose from. Above the photos of the featured listings are the search parameters labeled “Sort by”. You can choose by price, number of bedrooms & baths, the number of people the unit sleeps, etc.
So let’s say you choose “Private Homes: White Sands Beach Estates.” Four listings show up. Mine is the Kona Lighthouse.
